Legal & Commercial Service to the Maritime Industry
Cocks Macnish is a Western Australian law firm established in 1981 practising predominately in the field of maritime law. Our clients include shipowners and charterers operating all types of vessels in all trades and marine industries, oil companies, shippers and receivers of bulk and containerized cargoes, government bodies, hull and machinery underwriters, shipyards and ship financiers.
We are correspondents in Western Australia for all but one of the members of the International Group of P & I Clubs.
One or more partners have represented parties in all of the major maritime casualties which have occurred off Western Australia in the past 35 years, a number of which have resulted in Appeals to the High Court of Australia.
We have been involved in legal aspects of the establishment and development of the oil and gas fields off Western Australia since the installation of a Rankin A platform in the early eighties.
Our approach is commercial and practical given our thorough understanding of maritime matters and the requirements of our clients. We understand the value of urgent availability and response and give practical advice often in concert with recommended experts.
We are also involved on behalf of clients in the review and development of existing State and Federal legislation affecting maritime affairs.
We represent major Australian and foreign clients in a range of both routine and complex maritime disputes together with non-litigious maritime commercial transactions including shipbuilding, ship financing, charterparty documents and general contractual matters.
