Timothy Cocks
Has practised most exclusively in all aspects of maritime law,
Admiralty law and marine insurance. Has practical experience in all
aspects of the International Group of Protection & Indemnity
Clubs, having worked for Thos R Miller & Son, the Managers of
the United Kingdome P & I Club in London, in 1974 and 1975. He
acts for all of the International Group Protection & Indemnity
Clubs in addition to many hull underwriters and major local
shipbuilders and has extensive experience in Maritime related
litigation, Maritime commercial transactions and maritime crisis
management. He has a close involvement in the livestock export
trade from Australia acting for all of the major Australia
exporters of livestock and the foreign vessel owners carrying such
livestock. From 1985 - 1987 he acted for Kookaburra syndicate in
the Fremantle defence of the Americas Cup.
Ashley Nichols
Ashley undertook his Articles of Clerkship at this firm in 1982
and was subsequently admitted to partnership on the 1st July, 1985.
Ashley has practised in all areas of marine and non-marine
litigation in which each of Graeme Macnish and Tim Cocks practice.
He also handles a wide range of commercial matters and has
extensive in P & I matters and Maritime casualty investigation
(having been called upon to attend as at 2009 over 600 vessels),
property sale, purchase and leasing (including sale and purchase of
Old System Land) marine cargo disputes, personal injury matters
(generally with a maritime connection) and general commercial
matters.
Associate Partners
Waqas Naseem
Commenced as a restricted practitioner with the firm in 1999,
becoming an associate partner in 2004 and was subsequently admitted
to partnership in 2007. He works predominantly in the Marine
context with Tim Cocks and Ashley Nichols. He works widely in
defence of personal injury claims (including Asbestos related
claims for sea carriers) and maritime related employment law.
Julia Routley
Julia commenced with the firm as an article clerk in December,
2000. She became an Associate Partner with the firm in mid 2007.
Julia practices predominantly non-marine commercial litigation
extensively for underwriters.
Paul Hopwood
Paul commenced with the firm as an article clerk in April, 2001.
He became an Associate Partner with the firm in mind 2007. Paul
practices predominantly in the Marine context with Tim Cocks and
has extensive experience in Admiralty law, Constitutional and
International Law.
